Let's compare SLT-A57 with Alpha DSLR-A500. Both cameras produced Sony. These models are included in the Entry-Level DSLR cameras. Sony A57 was released in 2012, and Sony A500 in 2009. SLT-A57 is newer, which is a plus. Alpha DSLR-A500 3 years older. However 3 years, the difference is not so bad.
